pre-treatment
-
To ensure your scalp is in the best condition for pigment retention and to achieve the most natural-looking results, please follow these preparation guidelines:
-
Stop using Rogaine (Minoxidil) or similar hair growth treatments. These products increase blood flow to the scalp, which can cause the pigment to blur or migrate during the healing process.
-
Apply a daily moisturizer to your scalp twice a day to ensure the skin is hydrated and supple. Additionally, avoid direct sun exposure or tanning beds; we cannot perform the procedure on a sunburned or peeling scalp.
-
Avoid Blood Thinners: Do not take Aspirin, Ibuprofen, or supplements like Vitamin E and Fish Oil. These can thin the blood, leading to more bleeding during the session which may push the pigment out.
-
Please avoid alcohol consumption as it can increase skin sensitivity. If you typically wear your hair buzzed, please shave or buzz your head 24 hours prior so the skin is not irritated on the day of the appointment. We can also provide this service.
-
Hydrate & Fuel Up: Eat a full, hearty meal and drink plenty of water before your session. Please avoid caffeine the morning of your appointment, as it can increase your heart rate and make you feel more restless during the process.
Post-Treatment Care
-
Be sure to receive guidance from our practitioner on how to care for your scalp post-treatment to ensure the best results.
Don’t touch the area with unwashed hands as they may contain bacteria resulting in an infection. Do not use products that contain AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acid) on the procedure area as they will fade your pigment. Discontinue the use of Rogaine as well as Head and Shoulders as it contains harsh drying agents. -
Avoid touching, showering or shaving the treated area. Avoid any physical activities that may cause excessive perspiration. Refrain from washing your head and getting it wet.
-
Wash your head gently with cold water and gentle/organic products (example, using baby shampoo or charcoal soap). Apply a moisturizer 3x daily (with clean hands) to prevent the skin from drying (use Vitamin A&D ointments). We recommend using non-perfumed moisturizers. You can perform activities from which you lightly perspire (for example: lift weights at a low pace, but avoid tough cardio sessions).
-
You can resume your usual schedule. This is the time when you might consider using a trimmer or razor blade to shave our head. However, avoid using it if there are still healing scabs on the skin. You can also resume your usual workout regimen.
-
Swimming, saunas and outdoor activities are now permitted. A quality 30-50 SPF sunscreen is highly recommended. Moisturize daily with a light-natural moisturizing cream. We recommend applying all natural-organic moisturizers (ex. coconut oil), thin/light-coat as you heal.
-
We believe in getting your results right from the start, so touch-ups shouldn't be a frequent concern; our SMP treatments remain vibrant and defined for 5 to 8 years before showing any signs of fading.
When the time eventually comes, we’ll provide a quick maintenance session to keep your look crisp and your confidence at its peak.
*Failure to follow these instructions may result in pigment color loss. This may then result in extra sessions and cost. Any questions on the above information, please don’t hesitate to ask your practitioner.
