as Calaveras Barber Shop & SMP, marking a fresh chapter in a legacy of grooming excellence. The torch has been passed to Ricardo Sepeda, a dedicated, professional talent who, after eight years of stewardship, is
infusing the shop with his unique vision. But first, a look at the past:
THE STORY
Honoring the Past, Crafting the Future
Joe Luis Gonzalez, fondly known as “The Christian Barber,” began his journey in 1967 after graduating from Moler Barber School. He first honed his skills at San Juan Barbershop in Humboldt Park before opening Joe’s Hair Styles for Men in Logan Square in 1972. Joe’s commitment to his craft led him to take over Angelo’s Barbershop in 1993, which he ran until 2004 before returning
to his roots to re-establish Joe’s Hair Studio.
Ricardo Sepeda, an aspiring barber, crossed paths with Joe and William Hernandez in 2015. Under their mentorship, Ricardo flourished, and Joe, recognizing his potential, offered him the reins of the shop even before he finished barber school.
As Joe steps into retirement after nearly half a century, he leaves behind a legacy of peace and excellence. William, who retired and sadly passed away
in 2023, was also a guiding force for Ricardo. Together, they’ve entrusted Ricardo with not just a business, but a community institution. Now at the
helm of Calaveras Barber Shop & SMP, Ricardo is set to continue this
legacy with the same dedication and heart.
