Ricardo is a person filled with diverse talents and a heart for community. From soaring skies as a flight attendant to spinning tracks as a DJ, electrifying the crowds with breakdance moves, to uniting people through local events, Ricardo embodies service, multiculturalism, inclusivity, and celebration.

His Mexican heritage is a source of pride and inspiration, fueling his decade-long journey in barbering for his brothers, friends and family to eventually a professional career for his community.

Today, Ricardo is thrilled to infuse his spirit into Joe’s Hair studio, making it his own: Calaveras Barbershop & SMP, a rebrand close to his heart.

A certified barber and master in Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP), Ricardo not only transforms looks but also empowers others by offering training in barbering & SMP.

An Illinois native who’s explored the globe, his passion for barbering and SMP shines through every cut, dot and conversation.

At Calaveras, Ricardo ensures that every client leaves not just looking their best, but feeling it too, thanks to an experience crafted with care and expertise.

my vision for your experience

More Than a Haircut—A Community Vibe

When you walk through the doors of Calaveras Barbershop & SMP, I want you to feel an immediate shift in energy. This isn't just a destination for a fresh cut; it’s a space where my professional background and my passion for community converge.

I chose the name Calaveras (Spanish for "skulls") as a nod to the literal canvas I work on every day, but also as a tribute to the celebration of life. To me, it represents the unique individuality of every person who sits in my chair.

From my curated playlists to the live guest DJs, conversations with guests, or neighborhood dogs stopping by to say hi, my goal is for you to feel like you’ve arrived at the best neighborhood hangout in Logan Square.
